Whistling Thorn Acacia, Nasera rock valley

Whistling Thorn Acacia, Nasera rock valley

The whistling thorn accacia actually whistles when the wind blows. This is because of the symbiotic relationship with ants. At the base of the thorn the plant grows chambers where the ants nest in. In return the ants attack browsers. The whistle is made by wind blowing over the entrance holes the ants chew in the chambers.
